Cape Verde prime minister praises tourist sector

Cape Verde's prime minister has praised the growing tourist market on the islands as a factor behind recent economic growth.
Jose Maria Neves was quoted by Travel Daily News as saying that the economy had grown at an average rate of 20 per cent a year for the last five years.
He stated that tourism was largely responsible for this expansion, as foreign visitors and property investors have increasingly been pouring money into the islands.
Speaking at a meeting of the Africa Travel Association, he predicted that Cape Verde would continue to benefit from tourism, which he said was "the main engine of growth and transformation" in the region.
Meanwhile, Cape Verde's national airline TACV is preparing to launch direct flights between the islands and the UK later this month.
Victor Fidalgo of tourist promotion agency Cabo Verde Investimentos said that the new services from Stansted Airport would help to attract more visitors and make the island more competitive.
