Cape Verde marketed to Britons

British leisure travellers are being encouraged to visit the Cape Verde islands in 2008, according to a media report.
The Daily Mail stated that during the last year, the travel industry had increased the amount it was spending on marketing its holidays by 25 per cent.
Much of this promotion was said to be focused on long-haul destinations such as Cape Verde, as they were rapidly becoming popular alternatives to countries in Europe.
This means that owners of tourist accommodation in the west African archipelago could be set to receive higher rental returns next year.
The Daily Mail commented: "The companies' travel programmes for 2008 reflect the increasing popularity of long-haul holidays over the traditional sun, sea and sand of the Mediterranean."
Last month, the aviation sector was credited with helping to trigger the "relatively sudden" emergence of Cape Verde as a holiday destination.
Paul Collins, overseas property editor at BuyAssociation, said the introduction of direct flights from the UK had opened up the country to British tourists and property buyers.
