Retirees given warm welcome in Bulgaria

British retirees giving thought to investment property in Bulgaria will be warmly received in the Balkan state, according to one industry expert.
Les Calvert, of Property-abroad.com, said that the huge influx of foreign capital, especially from British investors, has invigorated Bulgarian life.
Membership of the European Union has also proved a stimulus for the eastern European nation, forging new trade links - such changes, according to Mr Calvert, are welcomed by locals "with open arms".
Though British investors might be wary of emigrating to a former Soviet state, Mr Calvert stressed that investment and development had led to Bulgaria growing increasingly westernised and less of a "culture shock" for new residents.
He continued: "All the time, as there are more and more people in the country and in society, people pick up new habits [and] new ways of life."
Mr Calvert's comments followed a recent report from the Sofia Echo that investment fund SECURE Investment Ltd will invest almost 150 million in eastern European property, concentrating on projects in Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.
