Investors in emerging markets 'should research area first'

People who are planning to invest in an emerging market have been advised to carry out research into the area first.
Foreign Currencies Direct recommended that people spend some time in and around their chosen destination before they made a purchase.
The firm also recommended that prospective investors speak to people who have already bought in their region of choice, in order to get first-hand experience of owning a property there.
In addition, investors were advised to consider other issues such as whether developers were building to good quality European standards and the accessibility of the area.
Stephen Hughes, spokesperson for Foreign Currencies Direct, told This is Money: "Before people rush into buying they need to think is it a place they will really go?"
He added that emerging markets such as Bulgaria were becoming highly popular among investors, along with other areas such as Cyprus and Cape Verde.
This follows similar advice from Off Plan International, which recently recommended that buyers never buy a property without viewing the area first.
