Foreign investments 'generating retirement income'

Many people are turning away from traditional pension schemes and using foreign properties to generate a retirement income, according to experts.
Scottish Widows stated that a lack of consumer confidence in the pension system had led to many looking at other ways of investing their assets in a profitable way.
The firm said that many people had opted to invest in overseas property, as they would be able to benefit from rising house prices in foreign markets and rental income.
This money could then be used by investors to fund their standard of living during their post-working life.
Despite the likelihood of achieving returns on investments in countries such as eastern Europe, Scottish Widows has urged buyers not to use this as their sole source of income.
Ian Naismith, head of pensions at the company, said: "People are putting their money into property, which does have some validity, but like anything else it's best not to put all your eggs in one basket."
Recently, eastern Europe was highlighted as a particularly lucrative market by World Investment Services.
