Bulgarian food ranked cheapest in EU

British buyers considering investment property in Bulgaria will be pleased to hear further confirmation of the country's low living costs.
In a new survey from Eurostat, food and beverage prices in the Balkan state were found be cost nearly half of the European Union average.
While upmarket destinations such as Denmark and Ireland were found to have the most expensive cuisine in Europe, the study from the Statistical Office of the European Communities found that emerging destinations in eastern Europe offered startlingly cheap living costs.
Even with increasing foreign investment, the emerging economies remain among the cheapest in Europe, with Bulgarian grocery shopping costing 44 per cent less than the EU average.
Alcohol prices were found to be 30 per cent below the EU average, while tobacco costs are 50 per cent lower than the average price for member states.
The survey followed the recent news that the average yearly income in Bulgaria has soared in the past year, thanks to its booming property market.
