Bulgaria emerging as hot retirement spot
Bulgaria is beginning to emerge as a popular destination for British retirees, according to a market observer.
Despite its fledgling economy and emerging property investment market, the new EU entrant is attracting interest because of its low living costs and rapidly improving infrastructure, according to an expert with the internet advice site BuyAssociation.
As the Bulgarian property market "starts to emerge and things like healthcare and transport links improve then people start to see that as a viable option," said the firm's overseas property editor Phil Collins.
"It may be another five or ten years before we see it as a really serious retirement destination - but it's something that's out there and people are thinking about it," he added.
He went on to conclude that the financial incentives of retiring overseas were the main drivers of interest in eastern Europe countries such as Bulgaria.
"Not only can you buy a property cheaper, you'll also be able to live cheaper as well," he explained. "Certainly, a lot of people when they retire downsize as well.
