40,000 Britons 'have invested in Bulgaria'

Approximately 40,000 Britons have entered the Bulgarian property market, according to a UK newspaper.
The Independent stated that low property values in the eastern European country had attracted thousands of overseas investors.
Capital city Sofia was said to offer a variety of bargain properties, including a new flat near the centre priced at £25,000.
The popular ski resort of Bansko was also said to be drawing in British investors who hoped to cash in on its tourist trade.
However, the newspaper said that property owners should not expect to achieve high returns in the short-term.
In addition, people were told that they should visit their proposed investment property before they actually buy it.
The paper added that investors also had to familiarise themselves with local rules and regulations on issues such as tax.
Earlier this week, Foreign Currencies Direct spokesperson Stephen Hughes told This is Money that people who were planning to invest in an emerging market such as Bulgaria should carry out research into the area first.
