Nessebur
Popular holiday resort
The beautiful old town of Nessebur located just 3km from Sunny Beach is enjoying a property boom.
Holiday apartments in this area are considered excellent investments as demand for summer rentals here is high and the income from them good during the height of summer. With its fame comes the staging of leading events.
Last year it was Sting’s chosen venue for his Bulgarian performance during his 2006 Broken Music Tour. 15,000 fans attended.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
The reason for its popularity is the same reason it is has earned its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The historic town, emblematic of Bulgarian National Revival architecture, is an attractive place to explore before dining out in one of the excellent restaurants overlooking the bay.
Pretty narrow cobblestone lanes lead to tiny squares overhung by two-storey period houses with stone ground levels and wooden upper floors.
Hidden within it are many magnificent churches from across the ages.
The Church of St John Aliturgitus perched above the harbour is probably the most interesting for its bizarre exterior.
Beautiful beach
Occupying a narrow peninsular extending out into the Black Sea, it is at the southern end of the same bay as Sunny Beach, sharing with it a beach covered in the finest of sand.
Common with all resorts on the northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, it enjoys temperatures of 27oC in July and August and its beach gently slopes into warm, tide-free waters.
In the neighbourhood
Just 2km to the north of Nessebur tourists can take advantage of all the amenities of the largest Bulgarian coastal resort, Sunny Beach.
20km to the south are the healing muds of Pomerie, an attractive town which produces some the country’s finest Pamid, Dimyat and Merlot wines.
Further south at 38km is the city of Bourgas with its shopping, site seeing and international airport.
Property guide
As in Sunny Beach, St Vlas and Ravda, in 2006 the main demand in Nessebur was for apartments of 60m2 to 70m2 which carried a price tag of between 600 EUR and 1300 EUR per m2.
