Kranevo

Sozopol Harbour, Bulgaria
A quiet resort

Taking its name from the ancient Roman fortress on the southern plateau above it - of which traces can still be found, Kranevo is a quiet village in a sheltered bay 24km north east of Varna.

The River Kranevska flows around the village, and to its north is the dense forest of the Batovska river valley.

A simple holiday

Its beach is long, gently sloping and covered in fine sand.

At its furthest reaches are the village’s more boisterous, developed neighbours: Golden Sands to the south and Albena to the north.

Unlike them Kranevo does not claim to offer modern and extensive facilities, nor a whole array of organized activities, just a simple, relaxed holiday enjoying the sun and beach in Bulgaria proper.

For those on a budget

For that simplicity, everything, including the coffee, is a lot cheaper than in one of the larger resorts.

And, whilst nothing is particularly expensive in Bulgaria, the relative cheapness of Kranevo makes it particularly popular with young families and students.

Families also like the shallowness of its waters for paddling children.

However, any time you fancy “splashing out” a bit, the luxury resort of Albena is only a 2km stroll along the beach; Golden Sands is a bit further at 8km.

In a pretty village

The village is pretty - distinctive for its whitewashed houses, red tile roofs and attractive gardens. Good restaurants and bars have grown up with the village’s developing reputation.

A swimming pool is available at the Rila Hotel and just outside Kranevo is the Sunrise Beach complex with a hotel, several restaurants and a choice of bars.

Amazonka is the village’s popular and lively nightclub.

Well-connected

An efficient bus service runs along the E-87 highway to the eastern edge of the village, putting all the region has to offer within easy reach.

This includes the bustling sea port of Varna, rock concerts at Kavarna, the former Queen of Romania’s summer palace and botanical garden near Balchik and, of course, the three new golf courses opening there later this year.

Property guide

The village of Kranevo has resale houses, apartments and some new off plan developments with prices from 700 EUR/m2 (480 GBP/m2).
