World Cup to boost Brazilian infrastructure

Authorities in Brazil intend to improve air and rail connectivity ahead of the 2014 World Cup, it has been reported.
Expanding regional air traffic and building a bullet train between San Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are priorities for Brazil's leaders, according to the International Herald Tribune.
A proposal to improve air traffic capacity has been submitted to the country's defence ministry.
Tourism minister Marta Suplicy told journalists that her priority is to plan for the World Cup and to make Brazil a favoured destination for other sporting events.
"The 2014 World Cup is a great opportunity for the country to raise its visibility before the world" she remarked.
She is willing to listen to the advice of specialists and to learn how other countries have prepared for the event in the past, she added.
The last time Brazil held the World Cup was in 1950 although it has been no stranger to winning the trophy over the decades.
It is also the first World Cup event to be held in South America since 1978.
