Regional airport reveals long-haul ambitions

A UK airport has announced its intentions to offer more services to long-haul destinations.
Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) stated that in recent years, it has added a significant number of flights to Europe to its schedules.
However, the portal said it would like to expand further and provide flights to places which have traditionally been served by Heathrow.
This, it stated, would enable people living in Yorkshire and surrounding areas direct passage to long-haul destinations without having to travel via London.
Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at LBA, commented: "There is now less need for people to trawl down to London to connect to flights worldwide."
He added that during the last four years, passenger numbers at the airport have gone up by 75 per cent, making it one of the fastest-growing regional facilities in the UK.
The comments come after the Civil Aviation Authority revealed that the number of people passing through UK airports rose by 2.4 per cent last year to 241 million.
