Brazilian government plans infrastructure improvements

The Brazilian government is to invest in a series of infrastructure improvements, according to a media report.
Xinhua stated that the work would be carried out during the next seven years, ahead of the football World Cup in 2014.
The tournament is to be staged in various cities across the country, meaning that different places will see a large influx of foreign visitors.
Improvements to the local infrastructure in these areas will be likely to have a number of positive consequences, such as making them more desirable to holidaymakers.
Increased tourism would also lead to stronger demand for rental accommodation in Brazil, therefore making it more attractive to foreign property buyers.
Tourism minister Marta Suplicy has welcomed the infrastructure improvements, saying that they would mean that the World Cup provides a "lasting legacy" for Brazil.
This comes after former Brazilian international Antonio Lopes told Reuters that the tournament would help the country financially and economically.
