Investment property in Dubai
Buying Guide
Buying Rights
Legal framework
As has frequently been noted, the rather cloudy nature of Dubai's buying process is in direct contrast to the glitz and glamour of its property marketing and indeed many of its properties themselves.
The first thing that should always be borne in mind is the situation regarding freehold ownership - while Sheikh Mohammed has given his word, the specific mechanisms are not yet in place to place property ownership in the emirate on the same footing as those in more established buying locations.
With this in mind, the old property adage holds as true in Dubai as it does anywhere in the world: always consult an independent English-speaking lawyer well versed in Dubai's property legislation, and an independent financial advisor, before proceeding with any purchase.
Even though a lawyer is not required by law, it makes sense to take expert advice at all times.
